Nine people were killed in separate incidents of violence in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi on Thursday, local media reported.
Aaj TV said that the killed people included a woman, a police officer and two activists of a political party who were killed in various areas of the city.
A police officer, who was on his way back home from police station, was attacked by two unknown gunmen who opened fire at his car in Malir Memon Goth area of the city, with the police officer killed right at the spot and his driver injured.
The attackers fled the scene following the attack while the injured driver and body of the officer were shifted to a nearby hospital.
In a separate incident in Super Highway area of Karachi, a woman was shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Early in the morning, police said that they found two tortured bodies from a house located in Malir Memon Goth. The unidentified corpses were shifted to nearby hospital.
In another incident, two people were shot dead in Jamali Goth area. Police said that the deceased were activists of a political party.
A police constable lost his life during the exchange of firing with miscreants in Lyari area of the city.
Separately, two people were killed when unknown gunmen opened unprovoked firing a market. Identities of the killed people have not been determined yet.
After repeated incidents of target killings in the city, police conducted a search operation together with Criminal Investigation Agency in various areas and arrested 87 suspects over the last two days, Karachi Police spokeperson said in a statement.
Police reportedly conducted 94 raids, besides nine encounters with outlaws in which 87 accused including 32 absconders were arrested.
