The Nigerian military, in a daring Operation Tura ta kai bango (Push has reached the fence), has stormed the Sambisa forest with scores of civilian fighters to harvest the crops belonging to the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, in Sambisa forest.

Sambisa is the operational base of the Boko Haram, a large swathe of land that is approximately 10 times the size of Lagos State.

Shekau has successfully maintained his own economy in the forest by growing what his soldiers eat, collect tax from the locals and money through ransom payment.

But on February 19th, the Nigerian military in an operation code name Tura Ta Kai Bango, a Hausa word which roughly means push has reached the fence, stormed the Sambisa forest which is the bastion of Boko Haram with the assistance of the civilian JTF and hunters to harvest the grains of the terrorists.

In a video of the operation circulating on the social media, the soldiers were seen celebrating the feat. A voice of one of the soldiers recording the massive operation was heard gloating at the fall of Shekau’s farm and praising the accomplishment of the Nigerian military.

He said: “We are here inside Shekau’s farm in Sambisa. Shekau where are you? The king of braggarts where are you? Today is Friday and we are going to have the Friday prayer in your farm. Where are you Shekau, the king of braggarts? We are here for the Friday prayer inside Shekau’s farm. I thought you said you like receiving the shahada (Islamic recitation ritual of conversion), come and take the shahada.  We will waste you. Look at your farm and see what we are doing with it,” he said.

The feat of the Nigerian military has excited many Nigerians who have been disillusioned with the many sad tales of insecurity in the country.
