Kano is considered key in the 2023 election. This is because the state has the second largest vote after Lagos, and has a history of recording the highest number of votes in most elections. Recall that in the 2019 presidential election, nearly two million voters trooped out to cast their votes in Kano as against about one million Lagosians who voted in the same election.

In the election, President Muhammadu Buhari defeated his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar by more than one million votes in Kano and proceeded to win the election with a margin of 3.9 million.
