Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, was greeted with chants of Atiku yesterday, January 5 when he tried to rally Oyo voters against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

A mammoth crowd had assembled at the Lekan Salami Stadium during the campaign flag off of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde. His colleagues in the G-5 who opposed Atiku for supporting a fellow northerner, Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the PDP, were also in Ibadan for the rally.

Wike, during a speech to rouse Oyo electorates at the rally ground, urge party supporters to vote all the PDP candidates contesting for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and the Governor. He, however, exempted the presidential candidate of the PDP in his list of those to be elected, saying “Seyi (Makinde) will tell you who to vote for in the presidential election.” But the crowd immediately turned against the Rivers State Governor by chanting “Atiku, Atiku, Atiku…”

Long after Wike left the stage, the crowd refused to stop chanting the name of Atiku to the shock of members of the G-5.

The G-5 are reportedly split between endorsing the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, causing a stalemate in their planned decision to  announce a preferred presidential candidate in the first week of January,
