A community in Ijebu Ife, a suburb in the Ijebu East local government area of Ogun State has rejected a transformer reportedly donated to them by the Ogun State Government headed by Dapo Abiodun.
Abiodun, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 11 governorship election, faces a stiff re-election contest. His opponent is Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adebutu had earlier donated a transformer for the community when two transformers reportedly arrived from Abeokuta, the Ogun State seat of power.
It is not clear if the plan was to replace Adebutu’s transformer with the new one donated by the state government. Whatever the case, the Ijebu Ife people rejected the new transformers,
In a video posted on Twitter by a PDP supporter, @Eromosele6, the residents could be heard chanting PDP and brandishing a banner of the party’s candidates, including the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

Adebutu’s candidacy received a boost following the alliance he struck with a former governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election of Ogun State under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adekunle Akinlade. Akinlade lost the election with a slender margin of 19,517 votes.
Akinlade is now the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP.
