Afro-pop singer and songwriter, Anthony Victor popularly known as Victony, has asserted that Grammy Awards winner, Burna Boy,   is currently the best songwriter in Nigeria.

He reached the conclusion after disagreeing with another singer, Omah Lay, who had gone on Twitter to claim he is about the best songwriter around.

He wrote, “Hahaha! Nobody comes close to me with the pen”

Reacting to the claim, Victony replied to Omah Lay’s tweet declaring himself the best songwriter with an emoji, which suggests he disagreed with him.

In a recent interview with Pulse Nigeria, the singer shed more light on why he contradicted his colleague, saying even though he respects Omah Lay as a singer, he feels there are better songwriters than him.

He said, “I mean, shoutout to Omah Lay mehn. He is really dope. I am a fan of Omah Lay but saying he cannot be touched. That’s where I disagree. It didn’t even come from a point of view of ‘Oh I’m better than him’ no! I mean there are just great songwriters. We have Lojay, Buju. we have Ruger…”

When pressed to name his top 5 songwriters in Nigeria, Victony claimed Burna Boy is the best songwriter. He, however, left himself out of the list.

He added,  “The names I’m calling right now. First Burna Boy of course. Burna, Lojay, Omah Lay, Buju, and there is Fireboy.”
