Nollywood actress Ethel Aderemi, nee Ekpe, has passed away.
TheNiche learnt that the veteran thespian died of cancer in Lagos.
Her demise was confirmed via a Facebook post on Wednesday night by the Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB),
Dr Shaibu Husseini.
According to the DG, Ethel was best known for her role as Segi in the sitcom, Basi and Company, which aired on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) between 1986 and 1990.

Announcing her death in the now-viral social media post, Husseini wrote: “I have been reliably informed that Ethel Ekpe, the screen beauty that delighted fans with her inimitable interpretation of the role of Segi in the defunct sitcom on Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, by Ken Saro Wiwa titled ‘Basi and Company’ has passed on.
“The actress and later day Pastor will be sorely missed. My family will particularly miss her because we named my second daughter Ethel, after her. Good night good woman.”
The deceased also starred in popular movies such as Aguila Njamah’s ‘Heartbeat’, Tchidi Chikere’s ‘Speak the Word’ and Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen’s ‘Traumatised’.
