Van Basten slams Burna Boy’s kickoff show at UCL final 

Van Basten said it was ‘madness’ that the show happened, adding that the final should have been all ‘about football’

AC Milan legend and Dutch former football manager,  Marco van Basten, has described the kickoff show before the Champions League final between Man City and Inter Milan as a ‘ridiculous’ decision.  

Ace Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy headlined the show alongside Brazilian music star, Anitta in Istanbul, on Saturday night

The Grammy award-winning Nigerian artiste while thrilling the crowd of spectators sang his hit tracks ‘Last Last’ and ‘It’s Plenty’ as they moved their bodies to the sounds of his beats

However, Van Basten after the event  said it was ‘madness’ that the show happened, adding that the final ceremony should have been all ‘about football.’

He also slammed the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for allowing such while 

speaking on Z Sports’ Match Of The Day programme.

He said, “It’s ridiculous that this show is taking place. Why not do it before the warm up?

“It should be about these footballers, about football. It happens at the World Cup too.

Ridiculous.”

Meanwhile, Man City edged past Inter Milan in the final of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) match to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.  

They also became the second English team to ever win the Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season after local rivals, Man United won it in 1999 in the process.
