Useni urges Nigerians to back Jonathan for second term

Former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Jeremiah Useni, has urged Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term because of his achievements.

But Jonathan is yet to accept the sole candidacy ticket offered by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Useni, a founding member of the PDP, who was also a delegate to the recent national conference, said in Jos that Jonathan’s development projects cut across all sectors of the economy and have raised Gross Domestic Products (GDP), the largest in Africa.

Jonathan should be commended for “the giant strides” he has taken to curb Boko Haram and for his “purposeful and well focused implementation of programmes,” argued Useni, Chairman of the board of trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

He implored the people to prevail on Jonathan to run for a second term so as to continue with his “good works, as his good programmes” have spoken for him.

He pitched that “some of these developmental strides can be seen in major installations being commissioned all over the nation not to talk of the innovative dry session rice farming and processing plants designed to boost rice production with excess for export.

“The second Niger Bridge under construction, the resuscitation of the moribund railway system linking the Northern part of the country and the numerous road networks across the country are all there for one to see.”

Useni also commended the armed forces “for the gallant way they are executing the difficult assignment” of fighting Boko Haram, whose leader, Abubakar Shekau, was killed on Friday, September 19.

He urged Nigerians to understand that this is not a conventional war, as the insurgents attack from different directions and at times operate among civilians whom government troops are trying to protect.

On Plateau State, Useni said Governor Jonah Jang has done his best and voters should decide who governs them in 2015.
