The Commissioner of Police in charge of Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has passed on.
He reportedly died on Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
According to The Nation, the late CP underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday, just hours before his death.
“We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother and family member, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead,” a family member said.

In November 2023, Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
Ayilara, who was then a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department took over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, however, deployed Ayilara to head Akwa Ibom State Command in February 2024.
