Two cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Kwara State making the state to be on the list of the states in the country where the virus has spread.
A statement by the state government described the two cases as one, a wife of now dead returnee from the United Kingdom whose death occured last week at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, (UITH), Ilorin and the other, a UK returnee whose identity and gender the statement did not however specify.
The dead UK returnee had been speculated to suffer and died of the virus but the government had debunked the speculation saying there was no record that showed that the patient tested positive.
It however said that all those who had contact with him including his wife were directed to go on self-isolation and that the samples were taken of the wife and four others with the result being awaited.
The government in the statement where it announced the confirmation of the two cases said it made the announcement immediately it received official confirmation of test result from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday.
The statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would give details of the report on Tuesday.
The statement reads: “Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 sadly confirms two seperate cases of COVID-19 in the state. One is the wife of the UITH patient, a UK returnee, who died last Thursday and the other is another UK returnee.
‘This statement is issued at 18:33pm, a few minutes after the government received official confirmation of test results from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Test Centre in Ibadan.
‘The government will address a news briefing tomorrow morning at 11am to give details and further measures now being taken to tackle the development.
