A new acting Vice Chancellor has been appointed for the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in the 58th year it has existed. She is Folashade Ogunsola, the former deputy vice-chancellor in charge of development services.
The senate of the university announced her appointment on August 24.
Ogunsola is a professor of medical microbiology and first child of Nigeria’s first professor of Geography, Akin Mabogunje.
Ogunsola is also the first female provost of the university’s college of medicine, Idi-Araba.
At the election for the position of Vice Chancellor, she defeated her opponent who is also the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of management services, Ben Oghojafor.
She scored 135 votes as against Oghojafor’s 31 among the senate members.
