A 30-year-old Arsenal fan identified as John Ssenyonga, was shot dead by a security guard in Uganda while celebrating Gooners 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday.

The unfortunate incident occurred at a restaurant in Lukaya town, about 100 kilometers from Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

TheNiche had earlier reported that Arsenal on Wednesday night moved from second spot to third on the Premier League table despite defeating  Manchester United.

The North London club scored twice from corners to comfortably beat the Red Devils in a game played at the Emirates Stadium.

United frustrated the home side in a cagey first half before full-back, Jurin Timber broke the deadlock in the 54th minute from Declan Rice’s corner.

Arsenal then doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute when Thomas Partey headed Bukayo Saka’s corner against William  Saliba’s back and the ball went past Andre Onana in the United goal.

The victory led to jubilation among fans who had gathered at the restaurant in Kamala. However, the celebration later was cut short with the shooting incident.

Witnesses said the restaurant’s manager became frustrated with the noise and instructed the security guard to intervene. When fans ignored warnings to quiet down, the manager reportedly cut the building’s power.

Tensions escalated, and the security guard opened fire on the crowd, killing Ssenyonga instantly and injuring another Arsenal fan, Lawrence Mugejera, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Ugandan Regional Police Spokesman,  Twaha Kasirye confirmed the incident and condemned the act.

“We condemn the incident, and we ask anyone with information that can help the police bring the suspect to justice to come forward,” he told local media.

He went on to urge football fans to celebrate responsibly to avoid similar tragedies.
