Two students of the Federal University of Technology (FUTO) have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.
The suspects: Chijioke Benjamin, who resides at God’s Lodge, Eziobodo; and Emma Amanze of Shalom Lodge, Nkara Moche, both male, fell into police net following a tip off by one Joy Oparaugo (female) that the two, using unknown phone numbers called her and demanded the sum of N400, 000 being proceeds in her custody realised from the wedding ceremony of her friend.
The suspects, according to her, had ordered her to bring the money to a bush and bush lodge at Nekede in the Owerri West and threatened to either kill or kidnap her if she failed to comply.
Imo Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, who paraded the suspects along with others for sundry crimes before newsmen said that upon receipt of the information, the Command’s Scorpion Squad traced the location of the callers, stormed the area and blocked all exit routes.
According to Ali, the victim then called the number that she had brought the money and the two suspects subsequently emerged and were immediately arrested, searched and a phone recovered with same sim number used in calling the victim.
