The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two employees of the Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue over allegation of corruption.
The board’s acting Chairman, Yakub Isa, confirmed the arrest of the officials while speaking to newsmen in his office yesterday.
Isa said, “The police wrote us that two of our staff, one on level 14, and the other on level 10 have been arrested and being investigated”.
He said that he didn’t have the details of what led to the arrest of the two officials, and said that they were awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
Yakub said that as Board they value integrity and a situation where the public will view a tax collector as trustworthy and pledged the loyalty of the Board to the current administration towards revenue generation by blocking all loopholes through which government revenues are embezzled.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Haruna Mohammed, said that he was going to confirm from the Criminal Investigation Department whether the staff of the Revenue Board are in their custody.
Meanwhile, four top management staff of the state Universal Basic Education Board have been removed over behavourial issues.
But the Press Secretary to Governor Mohammed Abubakar, Mr. Abubakar Al-Sadique, stated that they were removed following a delay in the payment of salary of the local education authority and resultant restiveness.
According the press secretary, the staff include the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ya’u. Garba; Director of Administration and Human Resource, Alhaji Haruna Bako; Director of Finance and Account, Alhaji Umar Jaja, and the Internal Auditor, Adamu Mohammed.
