A Nigerian man, identified on Twitter as Seye Dele, has lamented how much he now spends on buying petrol after the Tinubu-led administration announced a hike in the price of the product.

The Twitter user with the handle @seyedele took to the microblogging platform to post a receipt showing that he purchased fuel worth N71,500 for his wife’s car and his generator.

In the now-viral tweet he made on May 31, he described his decision to spend such an amount as a romantic gesture towards his wife.

The Twitter user, however, went on to curse all those responsible for the hike in the price of the product.

Sharing the receipt of the purchase he wrote: “Just performed the extremely romantic gesture of filling my wife’s fuel tank and extra for the generators at home.

“By Allah, everyone involved in this heist will crumble.”

After his post made the rounds, some curious Nigerians asked if he will continue buying fuel at that price every week, to which he answered ‘no’

Others, however, noted that the amount he used to buy fuel at a go, is more than the monthly salary of a lot of people.

A Twitter user, @McBidis wrote: “That’s some govt workers over 2 months’ salary.”

Another internet user, @ChinonsoIhekire said: “70k on fuel. Wetin dey sup?”

@temmyt007_ added: “Hmmm, normally I spend about 13k (full tank) x 2 on fuel monthly. As it is now, full tank will be able 33k and twice a month totalling about 66k excluding generator fuelling.”

Another netizen, @hugustus tweeted: “God! This is more than some people’s monthly salary ooo.”

While @charis4charis wrote: “Seye that 70k na my 2 months salary. We can’t continue like this abeg. FG should consider the average standard of living in Nigeria. Haba.”
