The ECOWAS court has fixrd, September 29, the commencement  date of trial on the ban of Twitter in Nigeria.

Observers are already expecting a ruling that may pronounce the ban  illegal.  The reason is because the same ECOWAS court had ruled that the restriction imposed on broadcast stations by the Nigerian government agaist  using Twitter was unlawful.

At the sitting of the court via Zoom on Friday, July 9, the court merged all the four cases brought before it against the Nigerian government.

Abdullahi Abubakar,  lawyer representing the Federal Government informed the court of his motion to consolidate all the four applications.

The cases are ECW/CCJ/APP/23/21, ECW/CCJ/APP/29/21, ECW/CCJ/APP/24/21, and ECW/ CCJ/ APP/26 /21.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, and 196 other Media rghts organisations and eight others, filed two of the cases. Patrick Elohor and Malcolm Omirhobo also challenged the ban individually.
