Troost-Ekong dreams of lifting AFCON trophy as Sanusi returns for Cote d’Ivoire clash

Super Eagles stand -in captain, William Troost-Ekong has said he wants to lift the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations’s trophy on Sunday, insisting that they are not just contended with reaching the AFCON final.

Nigeria will face 2023 AFCON hosts, Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the competition on Sunday.

Jose Peseiro’s side are on course for a fourth title after defeating Bafana Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final via a shootout.

The West Africans have recorded five wins and one draw in their six outings at the tournament, beating Sunday’s opponent along the way

Speaking to reporters ahead of the highly anticipated final, Troost-Ekong stated that winning the competition will be special for the Super Eagles.

He said: “We fought hard to get to the final.

“We’re not satisfied to reach the final, we now want to go all the way and win the tournament.

“It will be a tough game, it will be special.

“Everyone is very excited, we don’t need any motivation to play this final of the AFCON.”

Meanwhile, Zaidu Sanusi, who missed Nigeria’s semi-final victory against South Africa due to injury is now in contention for the final against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire after returning to full training

The FC Porto defender was seen participating in all the training drills at the Police College Cocody, Abidjan on Friday night.

However, William Troost-Ekong and
Victor Osimhen did not partake in the training, as the duo were rested but are expected to be part of the final session on Saturday..

The Super Eagles will take on the hosts at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday.
