Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has corrected the impression that professional football players are paid every week.
According to the PAOK Salonica defender, the notion held by many Nigerians that footballers are paid on a weekly basis is not correct.
He made this known recently while featuring on the latest edition of the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, where he clarified that although footballers wages are calculated weekly, players don’t receive their salaries until the end of the month.

He, however, added that the payment system varies from country to country, noting that he could only speak for himself.
It all began when a co-host of the podcast show, Tunde Young asked: “Do professional footballers get paid weekly like everybody in Nigeria believes?”
Responding to the question, Troost-Ekong replied: “No. Some countries they calculate weekly but from what I know, I can only speak for myself, you won’t see anything on weekly basis. It’s not like you’re getting alert every week.”
Prior to winning the Greek league trophy with PAOK Salonica, Troost-Ekong had played in the Premier League, Serie A and the Dutch League.
