Troops arrest 15-member Malian criminal gang terrorizing Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai, 7 Division Garrison have arrested a 15 man notorious Malian criminal gang after a major crackdown on gang related activity in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

It was gathered that the arrest followed swift investigations into reports of activities of the gangs in Gwange, Umarari and Jajeri areas of MMC Local Government Areas of Maiduguri.

The criminals had been attacking citizens and snatching their mobile phones and other belongings, a situation which resulted in loss of several lives and severe injuries inflicted on innocent citizens in the state.

Disturbed by the spate of urban gangsterism perpetrated by criminal gangs by residents of Maiduguri, who demanded aggressive action, prompted the troops to conduct a sting Operation at the identified areas.

Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert reports that during the operations,15 suspects were apprehended at about 11:40 p.m. on 9, June 2023.

“Items recovered from the suspects include; one Pump action gun, one Axe, one Jack knife and 5 phones.”

The suspects and items have been handed over to the Department of State Service for further action.
