By Priscilla Campbell, Minna
The Niger State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the state High court, Minna, has ordered a re-service of its subpoena on Col. Sani Bello, father of the 1st defendant, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello; Director General of the National Youth Service Corp; Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO) and Professor Promise Okpala.
Also, the education secretary of Mokwa Local Area is being held in contempt of the tribunal.
Ruling on the application by council to the petitioners, Umar Nasko and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Ndayako Esq., seeking a bench warrant on the five subpoenaed persons, Presiding Chairman of tribunal, Justice I. Igboji, held that, while Professor Promise Okpala was not served, the service on the three others – Col. Sani Bello, DG, NYSC and Registrar of NECO – were defective as the subpoena was not served on them in person.
Igboji stated that since the Mokwa LGA Secretary was duely served and did not appear he was in contempt of the court.
Therefore, the Presiding chairman directed a re-service of the subpoena on the four others, Col. Sani Bello rtd, Registrar of National Examination Council (NECO), Director General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) and Professor Promise Okpala within 72 hours and they are to appear before the tribunal on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
