Tiwa Savage leads African performers at BET Awards

By the time the Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian, Chris Rock, hosts the BET Awards on July 1 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, Tiwa Savage, Mafikizolo and Sarkodie, would have performed on Saturday, June 28. This is part of the “Music Around the Globe” presentation.

The three Africans are all nominated in the BET Awards ‘Best International Act: Africa category’.

That was the first time Mafikizolo and Tiwa would perform in the United States, while the announcement follows their victories at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) earlier in the month in the ‘Best Group’ and ‘Best Female’ categories.

In addition, Ice Prince, who won the 2013 BET Award for ‘Best International Act: Africa’, is billed to perform today where he will present the award for the same category to this year’s winner at the BET Awards.

This is the first time international acts perform as part of the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE since the introduction of international BET Award categories’ ‘Best International Act: Africa’ and ‘Best International Act: UK’ in 2010.

Grammy Award winners, John Legend and Nicki Minaj; American singer-songwriter, Jhene Aiko; and American hip-hop singer, August Alsina; are also going to perform at the awards, while 106 & Park, hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chante along with actor Larenz Tate, will present at the awards show.

K. Michelle and Mack Wilds join Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, and Jennifer Hudson today to perform at Staples Center.
