Tinubu, a Muslim from the South West chose Shettima, a Muslim from the North East as running mate, leading to a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the first fielded by a major political party since 1999.

Adamawa senator, Elisha Abbo, Borno-born lawyer, Daniel Bwala, Nollywood veteran cum politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, and Rivers State politician and a chieftain of the APC, Tonye Princewill, have all rejected the candidacy of Tinubu on the ground that it prioritizes political survival over uniting the country.

But Gumi said Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket was just a strategy to win the election.

According to him, the electorates, particularly the aggrieved ones, have the right to vote for their preferred candidate.

He said, “It has nothing to do with religion. Its pure vote-getting strategy and nothing more. It now depends on the voter to choose from a wide range of choices.”
