Anyim, who was Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, announced his defection on Saturday, July 13, 2024, when he led a contingent of his supporters into the APC fold during the party’s Local Government Area election campaign finale in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
APC leaders, including National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Uzodimma, Nwifuru, Minister of Works, David Umahi, and State Chairman Stanley Emegha, had welcomed the new members into the party fold.
In March 2023, the former SGF signalled that his days in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were over when he directed his supporters in Ebonyi to vote for Nwifuru who was at the time the governorship candidate of the APC.
