Tinubu returns to Abuja from Kenya

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja from Nairobi, Kenya where he participated in the 5th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU).

Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 4:20pm.

President Tinubu, who attended in his capacity as the Chairman of the Authority of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), left Abuja for Nairobi on Saturday.

While in Nairobi, the President joined other African leaders to draft a declaration based on deliberations and conclusions arrived at the meeting, reaffirming Africa’s unity and strength, firmly rejecting any notion of a new scramble for Africa.

He also showcased his commitment to strengthening the ECOWAS Standby Force with the aim to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region.

The President was received at the airport by top government functionaries led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinnma, and former Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

While he was away, Tinubu orchestrated the resignation of the National Chairman and Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Secretary, Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore respectively.

TheNiche had exclusively reported how Adamu was forced into resigning in a palace coup which saw Governor Hope Uzodimma playing a critical role.

The former APC Chairman later said he would wait for the return of Tinubu from the AU meeting in Kenya before speaking on the controversy.

After keeping sealed lips since news of his resignation broke last night, Adamu, who is a founding member of the ruling party later opened up that his comment would be made when Tinubu returns from Kenya.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Adamu was quoted as saying.

A founding member of the party said Adamu resigned when he got wind that two influential personalities around the president had mobilised against him ahead of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The party had fixed July 10 and 11 for its National Caucus and NEC meetings to iron out critical issues affecting it and the crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC). However, the meetings were later postponed and rescheduled.

To save face, Hope Uzodimma was drafted to procure the resignation of Adamu, an assignment he successfully executed.
