World Trade Organisation director general, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has met President Bola Tinubu in Aso Villa.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was accompanied to the meeting by Dr Ali Pate, one of President Tinubu’s ministers-designate.

Dr Pate and Okonjo-Iweala both served in the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan. While Pate served as Minister of Health, Okonjo-Iweala was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

It is not clear why the two are in the Villa. But the meeting is coming a day after the Senate cleared 45 nominees, including Dr Pate as Minister-Designate.

Okonjo-Iweala arrived at the Villa at about 2:50 pm. The meeting is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

This is the first official meeting Okonjo Iweala is having with Tinubu.

The duo had met at the sideline of a summit in France where the initial photographs she shared on her Twitter handle stirred controversy.

Tinubu was conspicuously missing in the first set of the photographs she uploaded on her Twitter handle. The uproar created by the picture caused Okonjo-Iweala to react, telling Nigerians to ‘relax.’ She explained that the posted photographs came earlier and that the one with Tinubu would soon be published.
