Tinubu meets Wike, El-Rufai amid Senate screening impasse

President Bola Tinubu has gone into a meeting with the former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike and his Kaduna State counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai.

Both visitors arrived separately at the State House on Wednesday.

Wike entered the presidential wing of Aso Rock at about 1:40 pm while El-Rufai came in at about 2 pm.

The two are ministerial nominees and have both been screened by the Senate.

While Wike has been confirmed, El-Rufai is yet to get the nod of the Senate as his confirmation was put on hold over an alleged security report.

The Senate confirmed 45 ministerial nominees sent to it by President Tinubu for screening and confirmation as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The red chamber screened all the nominees whose names were sent in three batches in six legislative days.

Three nominees including El-Rufai, Stella Okotete  (Executive Director, Business Development of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank from Delta State) and Senator Abubakar Danladi (a former governor of Taraba State), were stepped down by the Senate.
