President Bola Tinubu is expected to commence a working visit to France from today (Monday), August 19.

This was disclosed via a terse statement issued on Sunday night by the presidential media aide, Ajuri Ngelale.

The presidential spokesperson noted that that the president will be departing for the trip from Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Ngelale further explained that President Tinubu would return to the country after his brief work stay in France.

The statement was, however, silent on the motive for the president’s trip.

“President Bola Tinubu will embark on a trip to France on Monday, August 19, departing from Abuja, the nation’s capital. The President will return to the country after his brief work stay in France,” the statement read.

The trip to France is coming three days after President Tinubu returned from a three-day state visit to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea during which he held bilateral talks with President of Equatorial Guinea, Nguema Mbasogo and also signed security and oil and gas pacts with his host country.

The president had earlier barred unauthorised officials of government from attending the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in New York, United States.

He hinged the directive on the need to reduce bloated governance costs, especially as unauthorised officials in the past travelled on the sidelines of such trips for personal interests.

The directive was handed down to officials of government by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajiabiamila, during a one-day retreat organised by State House management for heads of agencies under the presidency.
