Tinubu defeats Obi, Atiku in Wike’s Rivers

Wike has repeatedly denied influencing results of the polls to favour Tinubu.

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has been declared winner of Saturday’s election in Rivers State.

The hotly contested state is governed by a PDP governor, Nyesom Wike, who is opposed to his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

According to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday evening, Tinubu won by polling 231,591 votes.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party scored 175,071 votes to come second in the election, while Atiku came third with 88,468 votes. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 1,322 votes.

The election in Rivers was alleged to have been marred by suppression of voters, violence and manipulation of votes.

Wike has repeatedly denied influencing results of the polls to favour Tinubu.
