President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari on Monday condoled Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), over the death of his younger sister Salamatu Asabe.
Asabe died in Abuja following a brief illness.
Tinubu, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, urged Abubakar to accept his condolences.
According to Ngelale, “It is with a heavy heart that President Bola Tinubu receives the news of the passing of Hajiya Salamatu Asabe, the younger sister of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd).”
Tinubu who condoled with Abubakar, the family, and all those who mourn the painful loss said, “My prayers are with you at this time of mourning. May Almighty Allah grant Hajiya Asabe Aljannah Firdaus.”
The President prayed that the bereaved family would be comforted by the departed’s legacy and the beautiful memories she left behind.

Former President Buhari, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said he and his family were “deeply saddened by the passing of the General’s sister but we are grateful to Almighty Allah for what she was to her family and her community where she did everything she could to assist those in need.”
The statement is titled ‘Former President Buhari joins General Abdulsalami in mourning sister’s demise.’
“We pray for the repose of her soul and fortitude to General Abubakar and the family to bear the loss,” Buhari added.
