Nigeria’s incoming President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told citizens of the country not to pity him as he takes on the mantle of leadership today, May 29, because he knew how difficult it would be before vying for the position.

He made this known while speaking at a dinner organised by the presidential transition council (PTC) at the Aso Rock Villa on Sunday night, where he also assured Nigerians he will deliver on his campaign promises.

The former governor of Lagos during his address further said there is a need to fight corruption and poverty, among other issues plaguing the country.

“We must fight corruption, poverty, inconsistencies in policies and many other problems confronting us, but don’t pity me, I asked for the job,” he said.

Tinubu added: “I campaigned for it, no excuses, I will live up to the bill to deliver. I promise you,”

He went on to assure that he will not hesitate to ask outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari for counsel where and when necessary.

Responding, President Buhari congratulated him and said he is looking forward to handing over power and heading home.
