The South-East-South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) has called on governors in the regions to put heads together and reset the regions for progress.
The group stated this in a press release on Sunday signed by its President, Hannibal Uwaifo, and Secretary, Kalu Ireke Onuma.
In the statement, the body of professionals from the South East and South South Zones, founded in Calabar in 2006, congratulated all the governors from South East-South South who emerged as winners in the 2023 general election and were inaugurated on 29th May, 2023.
“We are excited about the audacious goals and early signs of success that the regions are already seeing in just a week after the inauguration and look forward to partnering with all the SE-SS Governors both old and new to actualize our ambitious but achievable Development Agenda South East-South South 2035( DASESS 2035),” the statement said.
“We particularly would like to commend and congratulate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his bold step in the right direction to ending the cancerous Sit-At-Home protest on Mondays in Enugu State, and his clear directives and leadership to restoring the spirit of hard work, diligence, and industrious nature of the people of Enugu and the South-East in general.

“It is common knowledge that the Sit-At-Home protest has robbed the people and the states in the South-East huge economic fortunes and development and we urge that all hands should be on deck to encourage this recent step by His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah as those who promote this dangerous and negative campaign are only inflicting unfortunate economic misery and perpetuating poverty on the people.
“The Sit-At-Home has its roots in the high handedness of the immediate past Federal government and it’s inconsiderate approach towards Nnamdi Kanu and the obvious politically motivated attacks on the South East, which created a state of insecurity. Hence, Governor, Dr.Mbah was right in extending an Olive branch and calling on the President, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to release Nnamdi Kanu as ordered by the court.
“We are of the view that the Governor should be given all the necessary support in this direction. Our collective lots is suffering and we can not build any competitive and enduring economy when man hours are consciously wasted. Without a strong and healthy economy, our collective hopes of freedom and a better lifestyle is simply dead on arrival.
“We call on the professionals, artisans and various service providers to see this call from the government of Enugu state as a platform to engage and proactively reclaim the years and Times this sit at home has taken from them.”
The South East-South South Professionals added, “We also call on the other Governors of the South East to close ranks and engage collectively to reclaim the lost years and also work out an integrated approach to the economy, security and wellbeing of the Citizens and residents of the zone. No one Governor can go it alone. The interconnectedness of the region is such that if they pull together they will achieve more together.”
