Three siblings die of suffocation in car

By Dele Moses, Ilorin

Three children of the same parents have reportedly died as a result of suffocation in a parked car at their residence in Ilorin.

The incident happened on February 25 at No 8 Boluke Line, Zango-Kulende quarters in Ilorin where the children, two boys and a girl, lived with their parents and where their father parked the car.

Their father, who was said to have borrowed the car from his sister, parked it without locking its doors.

The children, playing around when their parents were not at home, were said to have entered the car and shut the door on themselves and were unable to open it.

Their mother, Shade Silifat, was said to have left them at home to buy noodles at a neighbourhood shop which she intended to cook for them on Monday to take to school.

When she returned home and did not find them, it was gathered that she looked for them until she saw them in the car and when she forced opened the car’s door she met them unconscious.

It was learnt that when she raised an alarm, her neighbours came to her aid to rush the children to a nearby private hospital where they were advised to take them to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

The children were reportedly confirmed dead at the hospital while their remains were thereafter taken to the cemetery for a burial done according to Islamic rite.
