Nigerian mothers-to-be celebrities have gone beyond showing off baby bumps like their foreign counterparts to holding baby showers to celebrate the pending or recent birth of the child.
This is a trend that is gradually taking shape in the country, especially among celebrities. There are some who do not wait for friends to organise it, but take the initiative themselves.
After showing off their baby bumps, some have held their baby showers. The most recent was soul diva, Omawunmi Megbele, whose friends organised one for her at the Presidential Suite of InterContinental Lagos Hotel.
The shower took place a day before her birthday and few days to her traditional wedding ceremony to Tosin Yusuf. She is expecting her second child.
Simi Osomo, the wife of Dr Sid, had own baby shower in the United Kingdom where she hoped to give birth. It is their first child and Dr Sid is already excited about the sex of the baby. “It’s a girl. Love this picture of my two girls,” he wrote on a picture he posted online.
Adaeze Yobo, beauty queen and wife of former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, who is also expecting baby number two, had her friends to thank for the baby shower party she had early this year in Turkey.
Ever since revealing that she is expecting her first child, The Mavins first lady, Tiwa Savage, had shown off her baby bump in exquisite maternity gown as well as while performing on stage. Although she has not had her own baby shower, it is believed that she would do it very soon, even as she has been sighted at Omawunmi and Simi’s party.
Some others who are still showing off baby bumps in anticipation of a baby shower party are Sonia, Ik Ogbonna’s fiance; Liz Black, wife of ace photographer, Yomi Black; and Mary Remmy Njoku, actress and wife to IrokoTV boss.
