Tertiary schools to make money from N2K charged each candidate
By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor
Tertiary institutions will this year make at least N3,336,388,000 from testing or screening candidates who scale the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB approved N2,000 as the fee to be charged by Universities, polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and Innovative and Entrepreneurship Institutions (IEIs) to further test or screen admission seekers who make the grade in the UTME.
Out of the 1,761,262 candidates who wrote the UTME this year, 1,668,194 scored over 100 marks.
A meeting between JAMB and tertiary institutions in Abuja last month pegged the cut off mark for admission into universities at 140, and polytechnics and Colleges of Education at 100.
Some schools conduct further test of candidates after the UTME while others simply examine their credentials and admit them. Either way, schools still charge candidates the N2,000 mandatory fee.

JAMB to stop accepting A/Level results from NABTEB
JAMB has received approval from Education Minister Adamu Adamu to stop accepting Advanced Level (A/Level) results issued by the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) for admission into 200 level from 2023.
A report of the meeting JAMB held with stakeholders shows the rate of A/Level pass is completely out of range, even as many candidates have no Ordinary Level (O/Level) credit when they write A/Level examination conducted by NABTEB.
