Jihadists prowling Nigeria, especially the North, have taken hostage, an undisclosed number of secondary school students, barely a week after 19 students and staff of the College of Animal Science were released from captivity.
According to Premium Times, the students were seized Wednesday afternoon in Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area of the state, which is in the hometown of the State Governor, Bello Matawale.
The newspaper quoted a resident of the town, Shafiu Bala, who said the number of the kidnapped students was yet to be ascertained.
“I don’t know how many of them have been kidnapped but I am sure because some of the students and teachers ran home,” he said.
Another resident, Yusuf Dosara, also confirmed the abduction to the newspaper, plus an aide to the governor who said Matawalle is currently holding a security meeting over the matter.
“He and some of his top aides and commissioners are meeting with the heads of the various security agencies in the state. They may release a statement afterwards,” he said.
