A terrorist leader, Ado Aliero, whose turbaning as traditional ruler in Zamfara State elicited outrage, has said he didn’t request the title.
Ado Aliero was recently turbaned the Sarkin Fulani in Yantodo Emirate of Zamfara State.
The outrage that greeted his turbaning caused the state government to claim ignorance of the event. The government later ordered an investigation, in what many say is a face-saving measure since traditional institutions are regulated by the state through the local government authorities.
Moreover, government officials attended the ceremony.

But in an interview with DeutchWelle Hausa, on Sunday, the bandit kingpin said he didn’t solicit the title.

He said: “Honestly I didn’t solicit for the title, I was summoned by the Emirate which initially I rejected.
“After consultations with our leaders over the development, they suggested that I shouldn’t turn down the offer since the new emir insisted it had to happen in his emirate; that was how I accepted it.”
Ado Aliero also denied being the mastermind of the killing of over 100 people in Kadisau village in Faskari local government area of Katsina State.
He said he did not know the person responsible for the attack, adding, “Please go and ask the village head of Kadisau; it was a reprisal attack. I wasn’t involved in it; I was just linked to it.”
According to the Daily Trust, the decision to confer chieftancy title on the bandit kingpin was because of the role he played during a recent peace process locally arranged between the emirate and the bandits terrorising Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
