Reports from England suggest Ten Hag is the anointed candidate to succeed Rangnick after his contract expires

Manchester Uniteds’ 77th-minute goal by Fred gave Ralf Rangnick his first win in the Premier League and leaves the club in 6th position on the League table.

The German takes on Young Boys today at Old Trafford in a Champions Leagues match that is of no consequence, even if Villarreal win and they lose, given their superior head to head standing.

Ralf Rangnick was appointed for six months to stop the poor run of results under Solskjaer and steady the ship before the arrival of a new manager.

The Telegraph has now reported that the German was only given a short-term deal because Uniteds’ hierarchy has concluded plans to appoint Ajax boss, Erik Ten Hag at the end of the season.

The 63-year-old Rangnick is not expected to leave United after the expiration of his contract because the contract includes a two-year consultancy role that starts next season.

Ten Hag, who maintained he would not leave Ajax in the middle of the season, made his aspiration for a  new challenge in Europe known a few days ago.

Manchester United are not leaving all eggs in one basket despite the preference for Ten Hag. Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, and Zinedine Zidane are all waiting in the wings.

Meanwhile, the blue half of Manchester, Man City are reported to be equally interested in the Ajax coach, that will however, depend on the future of their current coach, Pep Guardiola.
