Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, is said to be open to selling  English defender, Harry Maguire,  next summer, as he is deemed surplus to requirements.

According to The Guardian, the Dutch tactician will consider offers for the Red Devils captain, in a bid to raise money for the overhaul of his squad.

In doing so, however, the club will have to be willing to accept a big loss on the £80million transfer fee they paid to Leicester City for the services of Maguire in August 2019.

The defender, despite not seeing much game time this season, will head to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after United’s game against London club, Fulham, on Sunday.

The 29-year-old is expected to be the first choice centre-back England coach, Gareth Southgate as England face Iran in their opening fixture on November 21.

Maguire has only started one match for Ten Hag since featuring in the 2-1 home defeat against Brighton on the opening weekend of the season and United’s 4-0 annihilation by Brentford in August.

Ten Hag was reported to have praised Maguire’s professionalism but has not been impressed by his lack of pace and he is now looking for more competition in his position.
