Ace Afrobeats singer, songwriter and record producer, Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has revealed that she received death threats after rumours that she was pregnant for American rapper,  Future made the rounds on social media.

The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer sparked pregnancy rumours after she was spotted at Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week show, donning a black dress with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels, as many fans thought her clinging dress was as a result of being pregnant.

Debunking the rumours during a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, Tems said she never knew people believed the rumours until she started getting death threats in her DMs from some fans who questioned her decision to get pregnant for the American rapper.

The ‘If Orange Was A Place’ crooner went on to say she never met the rapper before they worked together on his Grammy-winning song, ‘Wait For U’ alongside Drake.

Speaking during the chat, the Oscar-nominated diva said: “When I heard [the rumours] that I was pregnant, I didn’t actually think anybody believed it. I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”

Tems during the interview also confessed that she admires the talent of her colleague, Asake, saying she would like to direct his video in the future.

She said: “I love him. I can tell that he is very artistic.”

She, however, added that her likeness for the YBNL star is “just for work, just to direct his [music] video.”
