Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Umuanuka, Otolo Nnewi, in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A funeral mass was held on Friday at St. Peter Clever Parish in Umuanuka before the interment. As his body was brought to his compound in Nnewi, a large crowd, believed to be his dependents, gathered at the gate of his grand home and broke into uncontrollable wailing.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was overcome with emotion, questioning whether death had been part of the final conversation they had in May. The governor, visibly somber throughout the ceremony, expressed disbelief and sadness over Ubah’s sudden passing. He offered condolences to the deceased’s family, the Nnewi community, and the people of Anambra.

Soludo recalled their last meeting in May, where he had asked Ubah about his future ambitions. Ubah had responded, “I want to be part of it, and the only way out is for Sir Emeka Offor to convene a meeting at our instance.”
In his sermon, Bishop Peter Cardinal Okpaleke of Ekwulobia described Ubah’s death as a poignant reminder for the living. He highlighted the importance of living a life worthy of remembrance, emphasising Ubah’s philanthropy and his efforts to make a positive impact on others.
Cardinal Okpaleke praised Ubah’s dedication to service, urging everyone to strive for a life that leaves a lasting legacy. “His demise is a lesson to us all,” he said. “We must strive to live a life that will be remembered for good. We must touch lives. We must make a difference and we must leave a lasting legacy.”
Senator Uche Ekwunife also paid tribute to Ubah, remembering him as a rare gem dedicated to youth development.
