Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has vowed to prosecute the hoodlums who attacked his convoy on Sunday during his visit to Wamakko.

Wamakko is the hometown of the former governor of the state and the leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Aliyu Wamakko.

The attackers threw stones at the moving vehicles in the convoy striking the front windscreen of the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity official SUV and piercing the rear screen of the following official SUV which rode the Permanent Secretary (Protocol) to the Governor.

The stone that damaged the protocol’s car barely missed the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Abu Shekara, spraying his face with fragments of glasses from the shattered door screen.

Tambuwal; his deputy, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya; the PDP state governorship candidate, Saidu Umar; the deputy governorship candidate, Sagiru Bafarawa; and the visiting Kebbi State PDP governorship candidate, General Aminu Bande (retd); and other PDP bigwigs in the state, all of whom were in the convoy, were not hurt.

Speaking with journalists on Monday at the close of stakeholders meeting with political appointees in the state, Tambuwal, who is also the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, said that some of the attackers have been arrested and will soon be prosecuted.

He said, “The matter is being investigated by the security agencies. Some arrests have been made. Rest assured that the law will take its course.”

Tambuwal further said: “It is unfortunate that yesterday (Sunday) on our way back from Wamakko, at the Senatorial office of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, some hoodlums attacked my convoy on our way to the Government House.

“We cannot condone any culture of violence in Sokoto State. We cannot afford to toy with the fragile peace in the state.”
