Taliban’s legitimacy takes a dive as Afghans protest in Jalalabad

Afghans defy the Talibans

The Taliban faces a legitimacy crisis after shooting their way into the government house in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan on Sunday, August 15.

The jihadists who say they would govern only by Sharia (Islamic law), have removed the national flag of the country everywhere and replacing them with theirs, which symbolizes Islamic belief.

But the Taliban met a shocker. The residents of Jalalabad removed the Taliban flags in the province and replaced them flag with the Afghanistan flag.

The open rebellion was met with a bloody response from the Taliban who shot at the people, killing at least two, leaving eight others injured.

Reports say Taliban soldiers fired into the crowd and beat up the protesters who attempted to remove a white Taliban flag and replace it with the Afghanistan flag.

The brave Afghans marched in their hundreds through the main shopping street, whistling, shouting and carrying large flags of the Afghan Republic.

Some protesters climbed onto buildings to remove the Taliban flag and replace it with the red, black and green Afghanistan flag.

Taliban fighters fired in the air to break up the crowd. In one video at least ten gunshots can be heard.

While some people can be seen running away, others stayed and continued cheering and whistling.

Taliban soldiers are said to have then resorted to violence, with local media saying there had been at least two casualties, though this has not been confirmed.
