Sustain my crime mapping strategy, Police Zone 9 boss urges commissioners

By Onwukwe Ezeru, Abia

Less than two weeks to bow out from the service of the Nigeria Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 9, A. U. Gwarry, has reiterated the need for commissioners of Police under his zone to sustain the crime mapping strategy he introduced.

Gwarry spoke in his office.

He said that on arrival to the zone from Anambra State as AIG, he called for a meeting of Commissioners with a view to crime mapping the zone because of poor security structure.

He expressed happiness that the security situation in the South East has improved and urged the commissioners to maintain the tempo.

“There is improvement in intelligent gathering or led investigation and this has resulted to the arrest of kidnappers and armed robbers. In Abia, Aba that was prone to crime has improved, car snatching in Umuahia reduced and in other states the story is the same. The commissioners should sustain the tempo.”

Meanwhile, the AIG has lauded South East governors for their support to the Police in the zone, noting that the donation of vehicles with security gadgets have helped in the fight to make the zone crime-free.

On land matters, the AIG advised policemen in the zone to see it as a civil one and not criminal and therefore should not involve itself. “The people of the South East are desirous to acquire land at all cost and when such matter comes, push it to the court and wash your hands off. It is a civil matter that can be settled by the court.’’ the AIG said.

The issue of Independent People of Biafra and protest is of great concern to the police, according to the AIG, but expressed hope that normalcy would soon come with the way the police is handling the issue without force. “Not all Igbo or easterners are interested in the struggle for Biafra nation rather few that are formatting trouble. I advise them to go about their legitimate business and shun acts that will bring disunity in Nigeria” he said.
