What could be the first case of the dreaded Ebola virus might has been reported in Lagos State today according to information available to The Niche.
Findings revealed that the victim of the lethal disease which has left deaths and anguish in its wake in African countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, got into Nigeria on Tuesday, July 22 through a Liberian male citizen.
According to officials of Lagos State Government who confirmed the possible case of Ebola Virus, the case is currently under investigations as treatments continue for those thought infected.
The disease might have come into the country through the man, a 40-year old Liberian and not less than 30 others who may have had contact with the virus.
At a press briefing held today in Lagos, LASG officials said the Liberian suspected to be the carrier is now lodged at a private hospital in Obalende. And as a measure of getting to the root of the matter, test samples taken have been sent to a medical facility in Senegal for authentication.
While sounding a note of warning for those who might want to go close to the hospital, the officials said the victim has been isolated while adjoining environment has been sealed off.
The outbreak of Ebola virus in neighbouring West African countries has led to the death of over 600 people and several others being treated.
Just a day ago, the chief medical officer in the treatment of Ebola in Sierra Leone had contacted the virus and is now being treated.
