Suspected cultist in court for alleged murder

The police on Friday in Lagos, arraigned one Ridwan Lukuman,21, alleged to be a cultist, in an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stabbing one Kazeem Taiwo to death.

Lukuman is standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, murder and belonging to a cult.

The court, however, did not take the plea of the accused, alleged to belong to White Island cult.

The prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 25 at Alade Ogun, Ilogbo Eremi on Lagos Island.

Odigie said that an argument ensued between the accused and his victim, alleged also to belong to a cult group, while they were drinking at a bar.

According to him, this led to a fight during which the accused allegedly stabbed his victim to death with a broken bottle.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 42(a), 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Adelaja, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Adelaja adjourned the case till May 22.
