Sure-P produces 700,000 seedlings for Great Green Wall programme in Kebbi

The Chairman, SURE-P Trust Fund in Kebbi, Alhaji Abdullahi Na’ammo, said on Tuesday that 700,000 seedlings would be produced by the fund as part of efforts to protect the environment.

 

 

Na’ammo disclosed this in Birnin Kebbi while briefing participants of course seven of the Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, who were in the state for a one-week study tour.

 

 

He said the fund would support the Great Green Wall programme.

 

 

Na’ammo also said that the organisation had funded 86-kilometre shelter belt established in desert prone areas of the state.

 

 

The chairman said that 1,500 unemployed youths had been engaged in the programme, adding, “we give them allowances prior to formal employment”.

 

 

Na’ammo said that the fund had also purchased 120 18-seater mass transit buses for the take off of the state-owned mass transit company.

 

 

The mass transit, according to him, will provide job to 450 unemployed youths in the state.

 

 

He said that the fund had also purchased 2,500 tricycles for distribution as soft loan to unemployed youths to reduce indolence and restiveness.

 

 

He called on members of the institute to utilise their wealth of experience in solving the lingering security challenges in the country.

 

 

In his remarks, the Deputy Director, Studies, of the institute, Mr Adebayo Babalola, said the participants were in the state to acquaint themselves with the activities of the state government on youth empowerment.

 

 

He said that the participants would use their findings to promote security and peaceful coexistence in the country.
