Support police in fight against crime – Ibim Semenitari

Mrs Ibim Semenitari, MD/CEO, NDDC

The Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has called on all Nigerians to support the Nigeria Police Force in its fight against crime.

Speaking at the launch of operational vehicles, some of which were donated by the commission, as well as the commissioning of the police law complex and “Safer City Patrol scheme” in Abuja, Semenitari said the support for the police is vital towards improving the security of all Nigerians.

She said the donation of the operational vehicles was a testimony to the commission’s appreciation of their service to the society, adding: “We believe that the Nigeria Police Force still requires more support and encouragement by stakeholders, and we are willing to do all we can to support them.”

The NDDC boss said while it is not possible for everyone to be physically involved in policing, “we could contribute by supporting the Police with useful information, finance and necessary equipment.”

In his speech, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, commended the commission for its contribution, saying that since her appointment, Mrs. Semenitari had consistently demonstrated commitment to assisting the Nigeria Police, not only in enhancing its operational capacity, but also in addressing the critical welfare needs of personnel of the Force.

He stated: “This commitment has been further demonstrated by her support in renovating Police barracks accommodation and other Police facilities in the Niger Delta region.”

Arase, who disclosed that the vehicles would be distributed across Nigeria, particularly the nine police commands of the Niger Delta, said the initiatives were aimed at bringing policing services closer to the people, while advancing “the concepts of re-assurance and visible policing, as a strategy towards denying criminal elements the space in which they can freely operate.”
