Former African footballer of the Year and Super Eagles striker, Victor Ikpeba has disclosed that the crop of players invited by Gernot Rohr to prosecute the World cup qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR) are good enough to win the two games.

He said this, while discussing on Monday Night Football, a football show on SuperSports. According to the veteran striker, the team has a major weakness, as it lacks a creative midfielder such as Jayjay Okocha or Wilson Oruma.

He went further to say despite that, he feels the team would win the encounters again CAR, but he warned that while we may get away with lacking creativity at the African stage, it may not be good enough at the international stages.

“On paper it looks very clear that we will pick the six points, but we have to be very careful because football is always played on the field of play. However, we lack that creativity in the midfield

“We don’t have player, such as Okocha and Oruma in the midfield that can create chances for our strikers. In Africa it is fine, but at the world stages, we need someone that is creative. Alex Iwobi can’t do that job for us” Ikpeba said.

The team has commenced training for the first leg of World cup qualifying encounter, but reports from the camp indicates the first choice goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye was conspicuously missing during training on Tuesday.
