Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has explained the reasons Victor Moses was omitted from the list of players to represent Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on June 10.
Rohr named seven forwards in the list made public on Wednesday and Moses was the most noticeable absentee in the squad.
The German trainer has now taken to explain why the Chelsea winger was left out of the squad to face the Bafana Bafana in Uyo.
“Coach (Rohr) has just picked those he believes will get the job done for him given the number of days they have spent together,” spokesman of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye explained from Paris, France.
“He has called up new players only in the areas where he thinks the team needs reinforcement.
“Apart from that, Moses will be having surgery on his injured toe this summer and that effectively rules him out of the game against Bafana Bafana.”
Moses was a title winner with Chelsea in the English Premier League (EPL) at the just concluded season and has been capped 27 times by Nigeria at senior level.
